DIY Gel Nail

Today's special: DIY Gel Nail
I am a huge fan of gel nails, my favorite being OPI's Axxiom & Shellac. Unfortunately, that $30 habit isn't exactly one I am still hanging on to while we are on the med-school budget. Instead, I've done my research in order to find a more affordable way to get that gel nail look!

Anyway, here's what you need:
1. Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat {got mine here}
2. Your choice of nail polish - per People Style Watch for September - Burgandy is hot this fall so I am using my old, trusty bottle of William Tell Me About OPI. {Find here.}
3. Out The Door Top Coat - it's the BEST! Hands down - you nails will dry in an instant & will be super shiny! {Find here.}
4. Nail file of choice - I am using one from Sally's. {Find similiar here.}

Here's how:

· Remove all nail polish & use a file to smooth down ALL over your nail!

· Wash your hands to remove any remaining oil, dirt, etc.
· Apply a thin layer of the Gelous Advanced Nail Gel
· Allow a few minutes to let it get semi-dry
· Repeat that - another layer of Gelous & allow it to set...
· Then, use your choice of nail polish & give it 4 or so minutes to set...
· Add yet another layer of the Gelous Advanced Nail gel & allow it to semi-dry
· Add another layer of your nail polish
· Apply the On The Go Top Coat...
· Voila, DIY Gel Nail
Okay, so some people don't have the patience for all of this - and that's totally understandable. If so, just leave out applying the last coat of Gelous Polish! Your nail won’t be as thick - but it will still look really nice!

Nail Salons allow an hour and 15 minutes to get the real deal - this is only going to take 20, tops.

The key here is to get that BASE coat of the Gelous Polish semi-set before you apply your nail color!

  11. This is amazing- although it took my nails a lot longer to dry and they were still tacky after a few hours (maybe thinner coats each step is the trick). They turned out great though and I will definitely be doing this again and again. People compliment and think they're real gels. Thank you for this!!

I have a huge collection of over 100 bottles of nail polish and I didn't want those to go to waste, and thanks to this post they won't!!

  16. I tried this last night but I got some bubbles :( I am thinking maybe it was my polish? Or I didn't wait the right amount of time between each coat? I think I am going to try it again with a newer nail polish to see if that was the issue.

  18. I tried this last night and so far am loving the results! Thanks for the tutorial! Does the Gelous require acetone nail polish remover??

  19. tried it and loved it! It really works...my nails looked great and I only had tiny chips on 2 nails after a WEEK! This is genius! I'm now trying a different color...this is the only way I'm painting my nails now! Btw, I used acetone nail polish remover and it works...but it is drying so I made sure to put lots of cuticle oil and lotion on my hands!

  20. I also got bubbles every time I tried this. I used different brand polishes, even tried waiting a day inbetween Gelous and color and still ended up with bubbles! How much time exactly do you wait inbetween coats and how thick is each coat?

  21. Great looking!!! Personally, I love gel polish kit. It lasts 3-4 weeks without chipping. I've got one of the gel polish kit at Runway Professional. Its really nice and perfect for me. I strongly recommend checking them out.

  22. HELP!!! First of all, THANK YOU for your step by step directions. I used them when I did my nails. (even bought out the door topcoat) I do have a question though? I'm getting what looks like hairline cracks in my nails. Did I do something wrong? It's only been 4 days. Any advice?
