Many of you have inquired as to how I make my lip color look more bold & rich so I figured I would share my lip routine with you all seeing as I am grateful to have found something to help battle the wintry, dry lip look. Of course, MAC lipsticks are my favorite as far as pigment, lasting color, & moisture – but even some of those have given my lips a dry appearance.
1. Begin with bare, clean lips. Use your favorite lip scrub to slough off all the dead skin/leftover lipstick/etc. As far as lip scrub goes I was using Lush. Personally, I don’t recommend it – it dried out in just a matter of weeks. I would recommend one of Sara Happ’s. (Peppermint is my fave!)
2. Secondly, after smoothing off & exfoliating your lip – it’s important to moisturize & soften them. Jade actually introduced me to Clinique’s ‘All About Lips‘ – I have had my bottle for 5 months now and I am crazy over it & it seems to be long-lasting. This step is really important because your liner will glide on very nicely on top of this product.
3. Next, I use a lip liner not only to outline my lips, but also to boost the color a bit, so get a fairly thick line. I really like the staying power in the NYX liners – but they don’t have many good color option. I tend to always wear the MAC ones – ‘Magenta‘ & ‘Currant‘.
4. Fill in the remainder of the lip with your choice if lipstick. In this photo I lined with ‘Magenta‘ & filled with ‘Up the Amp‘.
5. If you are a gloss person, this should be your last step. Personally, I am not a huge gloss person… during the winter I am more so just to infuse more moisture/color – but I love having a good gloss in my bag to wear alone or if I am dressing up a bit more. In the photos I used ‘Snob‘ by MAC but I also love ‘Frivolous Pink‘.

I love MAC lip liners & lipstick, but I haven't been wearing lipstick as much as I would like to due to how dry my lips get in this weather. Thank you for the tips, I will definitely try the exfoliator and All About Lips 🙂

I have the same scrub from Lush, I love the way it smells! Mine dried up quickly, too, but I was able to save it by adding a few drops of water and mixing it up again.
