How to Get the Perfect Loose Wave

As you all know, I teamed up with TRESemmé for their 15th season as the official haircare sponsor of New York Fashion Week. It is always such a privilege to be able to learn from their team of stylists and though this was not my first time working with them – I continue learning new tricks and tips. One of my favorite looks from Fashion Week was from my first day (this photo) where my hair had a loose wave and a few strands of hair were pulled back simply. One of the reasons I loved this is because it is elegant & put together, but super easy to achieve!

I’ll share a step-by-step below..
STEP ONE
If you’ve followed me for long, you know I SWEAR by the TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. It’s a must-have if you use any hot tool on your hair!

STEP TWO:
After you’ve sectioned off your hair (I have to section my hair of in thirds.. so in the above photo I am just showing my bottom layer!) grab your favorite curling wand! I honestly have never been a huge fan of curling wands. I think they are hard to use bc my hair has a silky/slippery texture with lots of layers. That being said, I have GOOD NEWS! Ha, THIS curling wand is a game changer. I have been using it for a couple of months now and have had an influx of “how did you curl your hair here?” questions!
The trick to getting the perfect wave is A. you have to hold the barrel pointing DOWN and you have to wrap the hair  AWAY from your face!
Here’s a photo of how much hair I wrap around the wand at a time and how the wave looks initially.
STEP 3:
After you finish using the wand on each section – you have to spray this TRESemmé 24 Hour Finishing Spray. This product is essential – it is not heavy in the least – but very light & buildable! It more or less secures the wave – but allows it to have a natural look!
STEP 4:
After you’ve completed the first 3 steps on all of the sections of your hair, grab this TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Infusing Serum and apply ON THE ENDS of your curls/waves! Not only does it eliminate frizz, but it smooths the hair & makes it extra shiny!

So this is what the waves should look like when you are done!

STEP 5:
Okay, so you can leave your hair down – but I loved having the pieces full back out of my face! I grabbed a teasing comb & teased the crown of my head and then sprayed that with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray just to lock in the tease! 🙂
STEP 6:
I just grabbed a few small pieces that hang around my face & pinned them back with a bobby pin to give my hair a laid-back, polished look — and of course sprayed with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray to secure the look!

And voila – the look is done!

Let me know if you have any questions!!

  1. I have a question. Which mascara do you like better the Dior or better than sex by too faced? I have the two faced one and find it to be clumpy and messy. Therefore I am looking for a new brand, what do you like most about the Dior mascara if that's your favorite?

  2. I wish I had such gorgeous thick shiny hair like yours! A lot of my hair fell out once I started med school, and now it's super thin. *sad face
    That barrel is wicked, btw!
