How I Get Long Lasting Curls & Volume

The past few weeks I’ve been getting more questions than usual regarding my hair – mainly the curls & volume. I will try to do a full, in-depth post on my curls soon but for now I wanted to share a few of the products that help keep my curls in tact & help with volume.

Last week when my mom was visiting, we went to Ulta & spent nearly an hour! We both love going to Ulta & perusing through the drug store items as well as the higher end items. I was out of 2 of my 3 must-have hair products so I had to grab them while I was there. Anyway, I’ll go ahead and jump right in… For the past couple of years, I’ve switched between THIS Redken hairpray & THIS one. I also really love TRESemme’s hairsprays. This summer I’ve been using the Redken one mostly bc it seems to do the best in the heat. My hair doesn’t hold curl as well when it is hot, but with this hairspray I notice my curls lasting up to 3 days some times. Also, I really like to have a good heat protectant on hand, Again, I like TRESemme’s Heat Tamer a lot – especially for the price point. However, I try to switch it up – when I finish a bottle of one brand, I alternate to a different one. So far, there are a couple of others I like and right now THIS Kenra one is what I’ve been using the past 6-7 weeks. It seems to really keep my hair from being damaged from the heat. And last, but surely not least… volume! My mom was in town last week and went to Ulta with me – she shared this next tip… using a lightweight spray wax to set your tease in will help keep it in place! So I purchased THIS Redken Spray Wax & I really, really like it. Its not super waxy feeling – which was a relief – it really is very mist like, but just a stronger. I tease my roots and then spray it & let it set for 2-3 seconds and when I’m done I just brush it through a little!

Since many of my products are from Ulta, I thought I’d share that they just recently launched a new Ulta Beauty Ultamate Rewards Credit Card which is tied to their loyalty program. You earn 1 additional point for every dollar when you shop at Ulta – so it is double the points! (I think for every 2000 points you earn, you get $125 worth of free stuff!) Also, if you have a MasterCard, you earn 1 point for every $3 you spend on your purchases outside of Ulta Beauty! Anyway  just had to share – I buy a lot of my drugstore hair & beauty things there just so I can stock up on points.. and with more points you get more $$ off.

My dress is HERE. Similar necklace HERE. Eyelash primer is HERE.

I’ll make sure to link everything in the widget below, too!

Thanks to Ulta for sponsoring today’s post.

  1. I LOVED this post! I have a really hard time getting my hair to be anything but flat and frizzy in this awful humidity! I made a list of your products and plan on hitting up Ulta this weekend!
I also purchased the Lancôme concealer you use last weekend. Still trying to get used to it (I'm used to the Estee Lauder which has more coverage and is a thicker concealer). I did want to share that I got the Bobby Brown mascara (LOVE!) and just picked up the Lancôme eyelash primer. Not sure if you've tried but OH MY GOODNESS it's amazing! That in combo with the BB mascara is the greatest thing ever! If you ever get a chance to try, I highly recommend he Lancôme eyelash primer!

  2. Emily, your hair always looks so thick and healthy. I too have somewhat thick hair. I recently got balayage and noticing much more dryness. Have you experienced that? How do you keep your hair healthy? I take b vitamins, extra biotin, vitamin e. Do you have any tips for growing hair thicker and longer while also getting balayage?
