I recently received this beautiful lavender, lace dress from the Special Occasion section of Modcloth and I absolutely love it. Ideally, it would be perfect for the springtime, but I thought I’d share a few tips on wearing your summer/spring apparel into the colder months. If you check out Modcloth’s Special Occasion section, you’ll see beautiful sleeveless dresses that are ideal for holiday parties, events, weddings, etc. Some are covered in sequins, some in lace, but they are appropriate for the fall & winter. The trick is that sometimes it could be tough to figure out how to style these pieces to make them work for the season! (I.e. You don’t want to run out of your house in a sparkly dress with nothing to keep you warm when its 30 degrees out.)

A few tips:

1. LAYER
Think faux leather moto jacketfaux fur coats, or a structured peacoat. In this case I added my faux leather moto jacket because it brings some edge to this look making the dress look less  feminine. Adding another texture and/or layer brings more interest into the look as well! Another option is adding a turtleneck underneath.

2. ACCESSORIZE WITH DARK COLORS
If it were in the middle of May, I’d be wearing this dress with nude pumps & a nude handbag, but I opted for darker options to make it more seasonally appropriate. OR, try adding new, dark/warm accessory like a hat, beanie, or gloves.

3. TIGHTS
Since I shot this in Denver when it was in the 80s, I skipped tights, but if it were more chilly out, I’d pair tights with this look. Many of the sequin covered dresses on the Special Occasion section of Modcloth would be perfect for a NYE party, but adding tights will warm up the look (& you!).

Hope this helps give you some inspiration so you can re-wear some of your favorite pieces from spring & summer.

Thanks to Modcloth for sponsoring today’s post.

  1. That dress is gorgeous! That's literally perfection in a dress. Those tips were really helpful because I always wish I could use more dresses in the colder months but I never knew how to make them look appropriate for the season.
