TURTLENECK: H&M (runs small – and very, very short!) (similar style HERE & I am obsessed w/this one.) | DENIM: Hudson (on sale) (similar option) | BOOTS: Callisto (mine are See By Chloe dupes!) | BERET: ASOS (craving this baby pink one!) | HANDBAG: Prada (dupe option) | WATCH: Michele | EARRINGS: BP (similar here)| LIPSTICK: ‘Mauve’ + ‘Blankety’
This was one of my favorite looks from our Boston trip – and probably a favorite outfit this fall. I am obsessed w/flared denim – and I have been for basically forever. Over the past 3-4 years that I’ve been blogging I wear flared denim at least once per season (featured on blog) but people always comment about hoping flares are coming back! And I’m over here like “oops, I never put mine away!”. I clearly do not pay attention to all of the ‘rules’ seeing as I prefer white/off white during the fall & winter months & I think brown & black look amazing paired together. I don’t know what it is, but I find that the fit is flattering on most women’s body types – more so than skinny jeans actually. Flares can elongate your legs (so opt for some type of heel w/them), balance your silhouette, & can accentuate your figure if you opt for the right fit. In my family [mom&sis code] we have a quick description for body types – we say you are either a hot dog or a hamburger.. meaning that if you are long and lean you have the hot dog shape — and if you gain weight it may be more visible from the sideview. But if you are hamburger shaped you are wider front on & if you turn to the side you look slimmer. Okay, lol, hopefully this makes some kind of sense. I’m totally talking about body shapes & weight gain & using food to describe it, oh boy!:P Anyway, in my family, us girls lean more towards the ‘hamburger’ shape so the battle is finding outfits that flatter from the front on & I should make note that I am not yet to my pre-baby weight so I am even more selective about what is truly ‘flattering’. I really love flared denim that are tighter in the thighs but have more flare at the bottom (think more bell bottom) – this will balance out the hips. Now, if you have the ‘hotdog’ shape, you may want less of a flare (think more bootcut). Although, I think the hot dog shape doesn’t have as much of a challenge – I think really long, narrow figures look amazing in high waisted, flared jeans w/ fitted tops/sweater tucked in!
All of that ^^ to say that I actually went into a department store in Boston and tried on 5 pair of flares to see which styles were most flattering. They were all premium denim – but you do not necessarily need premium denim! I did a post last fall wearing a pair from Express that are crazy flattering (see post.) My favorites for my body type that I found most flattering were THESE & the ones I’m wearing in the post. I will say THIS PAIR is $75 and look like the perfect wash!
Totally just spent the entire post talking about jeans – but I know that often times on blogs you see so many similar looks – basically everyone wears skinny jeans these days. So if you are looking for a fun way to amp up your look for the holidays and look more stylish – try some flared denim! Oh PS. I am not sure I can 100% recommend this turtleneck – I got the medium and it is still super cropped. I couldn’t raise my arms at all w/o showing my stomach. If you are short waisted it may be great but considering the price point – I am not 100% crazy over this one.
Hope you all are having a great week so far… can you believe tomo is December?!?!?!?!?
