Best Christmas Present, Ever: Sleep Number Bed

Santa brought us the best Christmas present, ever – a Sleep Number bed! But seriously, this bed is a pregnant girls dream come true. If you have had children before, you know that being pregnant takes a toll on your sleep. I laugh out loud when people say “oh get all the sleep now, because you won’t get any when your baby comes!” because I am thinking “funny because sleeping now is already tough!”.  (And I am only in the second trimester.. I know in the third it will be next to impossible to get comfortable!) Anyway, a little back story.. I have had heartburn since I was a child. I’ve mentioned on my snapchat before, but I have to drink a few sips of chocolate milk every night before I go to bed. (It also because a comfort / habit type of thing, but it does ‘cool off my heart’!) Well, as soon as I got pregnant, I noticed that it felt like someone turned the heat all. the. way. up on my heartburn because it’s on a whole new level. It’s become almost impossible to avoid and causes me to get really sick every single night. (I’m trying to explain w/o giving you too many gory details on just how sick!) John has encouraged me to sleep sitting up, but I gave that a try and it’s a total no-go. There’s no way to get comfortable propped up on a bunch of pillows!

Now that I’ve explained all of that, when Sleep Number reached out, John and I jumped at the chance of trying out their beds. John is as desperate as me because I can’t fall asleep and sometimes end up in tears so he ends up being up late with me. He also loves the idea of having a bed that inclines so that he can sit up and study watch sports! (And my favorite past time is reading so I loved the idea of sitting in bed reading at night w/o dropping my phone on face, lol!)

When we visited our Sleep Number store in Tulsa, a guy named Lyle helped us. He showed us each of the beds and let us try out the Individual Fit bed which is where you and your partner can find out what your sleep number setting is, using Sleep IQ Technology. I was not surprised to find out that we were in the 30s because we both love soft beds! We went throughout the store and tested out our options and really liked the idem of the Flex Top bed which is where it is split at the top half only, that way I could sleep sitting up and John could stay lie down. We actually really loved that one, BUT with the babe coming, we didn’t want to run risk of losing anything down that split. We ended up choosing i8 w/no split! John said he will sleep sitting up w/ me, lol! It is so comfortable because you don’t feel like you are sitting up but it is perfect for those of us with bad heartburn. OH! I almost forgot, our bed (i8) also raises the feet. Right now, I am not sure if I would use that feature but I am sure if my ankles start swelling, I totally will do anything! And, I am sure as my body changes and the baby grows, I will be glad I can make the bed more firm so it is easier to get in and out of it.

There are like 100 more things I have to say about this bed so I am trying to narrow it down. One of them is that you can control your bed by your phone! There’s an app so you can adjust your number and incline yourself. AND, it syncs with your FitBit and other devices to track sleep, caffeine, etc. It is crazy!! (It does come with remotes btw, in case you don’t want to use your phone.)

A few of our friends told us that they loved their beds and to try out the pillows, so I got a Comfort Fit Curve pillow that is perfect for people who sleep on their stomachs. (I’ll return to that after baby tho!) It has a curve for your shoulder and it has a cooling technology that makes the pillow feel cold!! We also got their In Balance sheets that do the same thing – they have a cold feeling to them (and warm, but we like our room super cold at night.)

I feel like this is the longest post ever, sorry! I just had to share all of the details, we are just so excited about it.

Thanks to Sleep Number for sponsoring today’s post.

  1. You are going to love your Sleep Number bed! I'm pretty sure I have the same one you have. And the sheets!! They are so awesome. I'm pretty picky about sheets and I can honestly say the SL ones are the best I've ever had.

  2. Congrats on your baby! We are expecting number 5! I too have suffered with a lot of heartburn. After years of taking Prevacid and Zantac twice daily I read about apple cider vinegar. I can't swallow it, so I take apple cider vinegar capsules. You can find them on Amazon. I also started taking papaya enzyme, also on Amazon, for anytime I need instant relief. Between these two things my heartburn is essentially cured. I wanted to share in case this might help you find relief!

  3. When I was pregnant, my dad's Christmas present to us was a king-sized Sleep Number bed. With two dogs in bed with us and pregnancy pains, our old queen bed wasn't cutting it. This was probably the best gift he's ever given us! No more pains and everyone has room to sleep.

  4. Here's a home remedy for heartburn that I learned from Karen on The Art of Doing Stuff – swallow 1 teaspoon of plain yellow mustard. I thought it was ridiculous but after trying it 5 different times I was convinced. My heartburn is gone within 10 minutes. I keep a packet of mustard in my purse now. 🙂

  5. We love our sleep number too!! It's fabulous! Would recommend to everyone. I like a soft bed and my husband form so it really met both needs. My sister and her husband have one. It's really a wonderful bed.

  6. I've been taking Aloe Vera capsules (by ProCaps) for acid reflux/heartburn and I'm amazed at the difference it's made! Ginger tea with honey is also great. Maybe one of these will help you!
