What I’ve Been Reading + Do We Still Like Our Sleep Number Bed

Today’s post is kind of a two-in-one, I have been asked a lot lately if I still love my Sleep Number bed & I’ve also been asked what happened to my Book Review/What I’m Reading posts! The two subjects technically go hand-in-hand so I wanted to touch base on them both today.

BACKGROUND

Last Christmas we got a Sleep Number bed and it was seriously one the best presents, ever! I’ve written two separate posts about it – one HERE [when we first ordered it] & one HERE [shot just a few days before Luke’s arrival!].  Both of those posts are very informational. One is about which bed we selected & why and the other post is about how much I loved our Sleep Number bed while pregnant. I had a very rough pregnancy (haven’t actually shared all of the details before) but this bed was a game changer for me.

As far as book posts go, I started doing Book Reviews [e.g.: this post & this post]  a couple of years ago and I had such great feedback! I slowed down on doing the posts but I am back now! Having a baby is the best thing ever of course but I don’t have any type of ‘free’ or ‘spare’ time anymore. Thank goodness for Audible, I can listen to books while I work & even while I travel. Luke sleeps on flights so oftentimes I listen to books while I hold him.

Anyway, I thought I’d pop in and give you an update on the bed: we love it! I have to work from our bedroom a lot now because my office is in a corner of the house that doesn’t get great WiFi. I used to love working in the kitchen (near coffee maker!) – but it is completely open and the door to Luke’s room is right above the kitchen (like a balcony) so I resorted to working from my bedroom. John got me the laptop/bed tray you see in the photos right when Luke was born and it helps SOOO much. It’s super functional & since the Sleep Number bed has an adjustable base, we incline the head area so that I can sit up and work – like a desk, lol! It’s funny the type of situations parenthood will put you in — and what you will do to keep your baby asleep!! 🙂

It has been wonderful for John & I because we are able to sleep on our own ‘sides’ with our preferred firmness (i.e. our Sleep Number setting). John can adjust his side to his preferred softness/firmness and I can do the same. It is all done at the touch of a button – either on our phones or on the remote! You can see that Luke likes to chew on the remote! PS. I am curious to see what Sleep Number he is?! 🙂

Another feature I’ve truly loved about the bed is just that it is all synced to the Sleep IQ app on your phone!  You can adjust your softness/firmness from your phone & also just get insights on how you slept, as well as practical tips to improve your sleep. I know this sounds crazy, but it sync with your other apps, too. I wear a Fit Bit watch & it all syncs together to track what could be affecting my sleep! [PS. It also sync with your Apple Watch, Map My Run, & even Nest smart thermostats – to track the temperature at which you sleep best! (Pro-tip from Sleep Number: your ideal sleep temperature is between 65-69 degrees!) The reason I’ve found this beneficial is that the technology in the bed will show that you slept better on a certain night – but it will also show that I went to Zumba that night. Hopefully this makes sense, I know it is a lot of information. But long story short, I noticed the pattern that I slept harder & better when I was going to the gym (which was tracked on my Fit Bit).

Moving on, I tend to listen to Audible more-so now that Luke is here – as I said before – more when I am working or simply multitasking. However, every night and then I read in bed at night before I go to bed if I can’t fall asleep. It’s honestly what I look forward to ALL day long, which is kind of funny to me! Never pictured my self being JUST like my dad and looking forward to going to bed early so I could read by book in quiet! [I always thought he was so boring but I get it now!]. I thought I’d share a few of the books I’ve read in the past few months. From the feedback I’ve received from many of you – you all enjoy the same types of books as me! I know some of them are a little ‘dark’ but I can’t deny it – I love & prefer the murder, mystery genre. I was obsessed with Nancy Drew as a little girl – that should have been my warning! So there’s your warning – I love books similar to Gone Girl / The Couple Next Door / etc.

Without further adieu, here are a few recent favorites that you all may also enjoy (in no particular order):

#1. Mean Streak by Sandra Brown

#2. The Secrets She Keeps by Michael Robotham

#3. The Surrogate by Louise Jensen

#4. The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle

#5. One Perfect Lie by Lisa Scottoline

#6. And When She Was Good by Laura Lippman

#7. Baby Doll by Hollie Overton

I can relate to the lack of time for reading after becoming a parent. My son is 5 now But parenthood at any age is exhaustinG. I fall asleep after just a few pages. In the last few months ive started Using Audible and it’s a game chAnger. I Just read WOnder (and watched the movie). Not my typical genre but highly recommend. It’s a tear Jerker.

  2. I seriously die every time I see Luke’s little feet! Adorable pics and thanks for the book recommendations. I also really like books that are mysterious, and the more twisted, the better 🙂

  3. I love your pictures! Also, I had kind of forgotten about this genre of book, I see a lot of lying and secrets and I’m going to check them out! Definitely, do more of the book posts!
